Are used notebooks recyclable?
Paper: The paper portion of most notebooks can be recycled with your regular mixed paper or office paper recycling, even after you’ve written on it. This can also be composted with your regular compost pile or in your worm bin as long as you’ve used vegetable-based or soy-based inks to write on the paper.
How do you dispose of hardcover notebooks?
Place in your blue cart. Drop off at a community recycling depot for free.

How do you recycle hardcover books?
While you can throw your hardcover books in the trash, we recommend that you donate your books. They can be dropped off at your local thrift or used book store for others to enjoy! You can also remove the cover and binding to recycle the inside pages of the hardcover book.
Are notebooks bad for the environment?
Laptops contain rare earth metals, which are quickly being depleted and are infrequently recycled, and toxic heavy metals, which can make their way to our water systems and cause health problems.

Why can I recycle paperbacks but not hardcover books? Paperbacks are easy to recycle because they are made of 100% paper. Hardcover books cannot be put in your recycling bin unless you remove the binding and just recycle the pages.
Are hardcover books recyclable in NYC?
Outdated and no longer needed hardcover books must have the interior pages removed from the binding. The interior pages may then be placed in regular paper recycling. The hardcover bindings should be placed in the trash.
